Doug has focused on innovation throughout his career as a lawyer, professor, and then dean of the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. His legal career focused on tech licensing and helping start-up companies establish themselves and protect their intellectual property. As a professor and dean, his teaching and scholarship focused on using the law to facilitate innovation. More important, he drove innovation at the law school at every level—launching new programs, ventures, and start-ups. As the founder of the ASU Innovation Advancement Program, he and his programs have helped dozens of companies launch and succeed. He was a member of the Global e-Commerce Practice Group at the law firm of Baker & McKenzie representing, almost exclusively, start-up technology companies. He has taught at the Northwestern University Kellogg School of Business as well as the University of Chicago and, of course, Arizona State University College of Law, as well as at the business school there. Recently awarded Phoenix Business Journal “Most Admired Leader” honor and nominated for the AzTech Council “Transformational Leadership Award” in 2020, Doug looks forward to bringing his expertise and enthusiasm for innovation to Xcellerant Ventures.
